Submitting your images digitally does not necessarily improve the overall quality of your finished item. We recommend working from transparencies, originals or photographs wherever possible.
Using the following guidelines to supply your digital files assures you compatibility, smoother production and ultimately a better quality job.
- We are happy to receive files supplied on Zip, CD, DVD or via e-mail.
- Colour files should have a resolution of at least 300dpi at actual size, (plus 2mm of bleed if you would like your image to run to the edge of the card) and saved as a TIFF, EPS or high resolution (press) PDF.
- Layout files should ideally be supplied in QuarkXPress, Illustrator or InDesign. Images and all support files should accompany layout documents. We suggest QuarkXPress ‘Collect for Output’ feature to ensure all documents are supplied.
- If your Photoshop file has been created using layers, it is helpful to us if you send the file complete with layers – do not flatten the file.
- We strongly recommend that for all digital images a colour proof is ordered as this is profiled to our printing press.
- An actual size laser copy of the text and images in position must be enclosed.
- All fonts must be supplied to us (both screen and printer fonts).
- Precise dimensions (in millimetres) are to be found on the relevant product sheets and must be used when setting up your document. For catalogue layouts, please call for details on how to set up the document.
- All text supplied on disk must include the company imprint in 5 point. We will position it at our discretion if you do not include it. The wording for this is: Abacus (Colour Printers) Ltd., Cumbria. 01229 885361.
- Digital cameras - always take your pictures at the highest resolution and supply the images on disk.
- We offer photo manipulation, retouching and high resolution drum scanning of your originals. Further details and full specifications on request.
We cannot accept responsibility for the printed results unless a colour proof is requested.
A black and white laser proof of text is available at a small cost. Work supplied to us on disk is not ‘proof read’ prior to going to print. No responsibility can be accepted for client’s errors in files that are supplied digitally to us. (It amazes us how many people send in the incorrect disks or make corrections to their own work, once they have seen a proof!)
