Snow Snow Snow ......

its all you hear about on the news. We have been having snow since before Christmas and its fabulous. The trees sparkle and the ground crunches under your feet. Everything looks lovely and clean, all the fields are white. The kids have made snow men and been sledging. Lots of adults have done the same and not many have managed to escape a snow ball fight. We have very little snow forecast for the next week but with the really low temperatures the snow is not going anywhere for the next few days anyway.

I am from South Africa so love the snow more than anyone else at Abacus as its a novelty to me. Minus 11 at six o Clock this morning the coldest I have ever been in my life. Today I got dressed warm and my colleagues took me sledging for the first time ever. What good fun!! These pictures show Judith our guillotine operator, Margaret one of the directors and me the Giclee printer enjoying the snow! I hope everyone has managed to take some time to enjoy the snow as much as we have.

2010 what will it bring? We are fully open after the Christmas break. The Komori printing press has been taken to bits, cleaned and serviced and put back again. In order to maintain the high standard of our printing we take the press apart every festive season and give it a good clean and service. Just like owning a car the machine needs an annual service. This involves resetting the rollers settings in order to keep consistent ink levels, replacing any worn bearings, checking the pressures are correct. replacing any other worn parts,and an oil change.The engineer who undertakes this for us says we are his only clients who annually service their press the rest just wait for it to break down.This is indicative as to why the printing at Abacus is consistently of a standard that others envy-- attention to detail.




Just as with a car service the oil is changed. All general housekeeping can be done as the printer is taken apart all the parts that are hard to clean and maintain normally get checked and thoroughly cleaned.



This annual service helps us run a reliable machine with minimal breakdowns and keeps the machine working at its best for many years. In turn this is just another way of making sure we are providing the highest quality print available.
